2 Crackin' Movies for a Tuesday Night

Shrink13

Its Tuesday night... so most people are going to be doing very little. I'll be working so you can all feel very sorry for me, but after that I've got some movie ideas for you - a couple of great ones I wanted to share.

Shrink
IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1247692

Shrink is a well thought out little indie film starring the amazing Kevin Spacey whom I still have trouble thinking of a film, even if the film itself was terrible, his performance didn't make up for. As you can probably tell I'm a real fan. Anyway, the film picks up after Spacey's character (a shrink) has lost his wife to suicide. He's turned to weed and some of the nicest bits in this film actually happen while he's buying it from his dealer, and through regular visits, friend. The film has a great mix of dark comedy alongside well played out drama as we meet a number of crazy characters through different people's stories coming together.

Robin Williams plays a very different role to his usual, as a wannabe sex addict film star going through an identity crisis and there are other excellent performances. Well worth a watch.

District 9
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1136608/

Its true that I love a bit of cheesy Sci-fi or some Hollywood action, and this film has plenty of both - although there is something more about District 9. I think the societal observations are good and the whole feel of the film felt quite original, helped by the fact that while Hollywood produced (Peter Jackson) it is shot and directed in Johannedburg, South Africa. The story is basically that a space ship full of funny looking aliens gets stuck on earth and as a result the government don't know what to do, so end up basically shepherding them into a Ghetto. The story is about one man who gets spliced with these aliens and starts turning into one, and his change in situation from once evicting the creatures from their homes, to relying on them before helping them to try and escape the planet.

I loved it. Never bored and always thinking, certainly my kind of film. Director Neill Blomkamp is definately one to watch in the future.
